The Amazing Story Behind the Reeve WOD

It’s easy for active individuals how lucky we are to be able to move our bodies freely. We in the SEALFIT community feel a personal connection to this because our COO, Jon Atwater, has experienced spinal trauma that limited his ability to walk.

We also know that our global tribe is powerful and can create incredible change when we all come together! So we’ve partnered with the Reeve Foundation—created by the family of the late Christopher Reeve, remembered most for his role as Superman—to create WOD (or workout of the day) that will raise awareness and funds for this cause.

With properly funded research led by the Reeve Foundation, there’s hope that individuals like Jon and the 1.3 million Americans live with spinal cord injuries—and 6 million with paralysis—could someday walk again. Your gift and participation will go a long way toward helping turn Superman’s dream into a reality. Take a moment to read about the unprecedented breakthroughs and latest research.

A Challenge for Every Level!

Every number in this workout has special significance. The first—1.3 miles—is meant to bring awareness to the 1.3 million Americans who live with spinal cord injuries. The 9/25/52 numbers are because that is Christopher’s birthday, and are meant to remind us all of his incredible courage following his own injury.

There are three recommended levels of intensity, including a scaled version designed to accommodate those with paraplegia—so everyone can participate. Supporters can do the workout on their own, or through teams/groups created by their gym.
